Marrying a woman who has lost her virginity

Q. I intend proposing marriage to a woman who has lost her virginity. Is this permissible to marry such a woman?

Assalamu alaykum warahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

We thank you for your query and for the opportunity to be of service.

Marrying a woman who has lost her virginity is Islamically valid and in order. Virginity can be lost in various ways and not necessarily through an act of sin. However, if this girl has confessed to a wrong doing and it was a mistake for which she has repented and moved on towards chastity and the indulgence has not affected her health in any way then you may marry her if you so wish.

Virtue of Making Salaam First: Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Mas’ood (Radhiallahu Anhu) relates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has said: “The one who makes salaam first is free from pride.” (Baihaqi – Shu’abul Imaan 6/433)
