‘YOU’ hosts ‘six-a-side’ soccer tournament

Twelve teams competed against each other in an exciting day of a ‘Six-a-Side’ (under 14 boys) soccer tournament hosted by the ‘Youth of the Ummah’ (YOU) of Darul Ihsan Centre on Saturday, 13 February 2016 at the ‘Astro Turf’ facility of Al Falaah College.

The participating teams came from Durban and surrounding areas – from Isipingo in the south and as far as Richards Bay in the north. The teams were supervised by Ulama of the respective areas, who are actively involved in youth initiatives in their communities.

More than a 100 boys – including the participants – attended the tournament which has grown in popularity over the years. There were more requests from youngsters wanting to participate in the tournament but unfortunately, due to lack of facilities, not all of them could be accommodated.

The programme started at 9:30 AM with a Qirat by one of the youngsters who volunteered, followed by a short programme on ‘Drug Awareness’ by Ml Zakariya Murchie.

In his talk Maulana Murchie informed and captivated the attention of the boys by advising them on the harms of drug and substance abuse and on how to guard themselves against drug pedlars.

The tournament began at 10:30 AM with a break for Zuhr Salah and lunch - with the tournament ending at 15:45 PM.

All the youngsters appreciated participating in the tournament and enjoyed the days’ activities in a sporting spirit, displaying good Akhlaaq and brotherhood.

‘YOU,’ in its on-going programme initiatives for our youth, will continue to host such activities, Insha Allah.
